    Hey friend🙂 a great knife. I just could not get along with the grind. Everything else was amazing. Super light, amazing ergonomics. I liked everything so much I actually bought a second one some months after I sold the first one. I just could not get along with the grind. Sounds crazy but it would always dig in or pop out on me. Most likely my lack of knife skills. I like to use mora sloyd knives now

    Hey- if you had time to show us how you are maintaining that scandivex edge vs a convex edge, that would be appreciated. Are you just doing a scandi, and then rounding it a bit on the strop? I have seen a few different techniques, but whatever you are doing is clearly working.

    • @Woodswalker1965
      @Woodswalker1965 День тому

      Thanks my friend I appreciate you. So I only deal with the convex edge really when I’m looking after the edge. Essentially it’s a Sabre grind right? I’ve been stropping the edge or touch it up on ceramic rods. Great idea for a video, thanks!👍

    Wow- great knife for woodworking; especially the work you were doing with/near the tip. A longer or thicker bushcraft knife might not have been as effective for that work. Seems like it would pair well with a bigger belt knife/camp knife, or maybe a small axe. Great video. Old School Woodswalker!

      @@Woodswalker1965 , I started scouting back in 65 . My uncle had been a n avid sportsman and a early scout around the 20s and had collected some of Horace Kephart's magazine publications and he let me read them when my interest grew on camping. I also read Kepharts book. My uncle had a copy . I had always wanted a Kephart knife, read about it several times and took to heart his viewpoint that he bought and used the most up-to-date materials available at the time . Never could find what I felt was the right combination of materials to buy. Knife makers came close but they always were trying to be historically correct and while I appreciate that and almost gave in to the 64 . Then Bark River hit the nail on the head with what I can honestly say checked off all my boxes ! ⏹️ a new type of steel ( CPM3V) ⏹️ a new type of handle material ( black canvas mycarta) ⏹️ mosaic pins, lanyard hole , red mycarta liners ⏹️ one on one contact with a craftsman who would take the ideas and requirements I had seriously and agree to create my dream knife of over 40 years! I talked to a sales representative and he got a fantastic gentleman to agree on my ideas . BARK RIVER was bending over backwards Willing to work with me! The team was all in on the creation of knife . I wanted the tip to be just a tad sharper of the spear point offered but still strong , the bevel to be a more substantial scandivex than would be normally available on their knives I asked for the tip to be exactly centered with the mass of the knife, and to be ground to a flat spine with no jimping and a pinch bevel on the handle next to the recassa . I asked them to sharpen the blade to a workable edge and left it to the expertise of the craftsman as to anything sharper. It came scary sharp!! Every time I used her for the first half year she bit me . Finally she taught me respect and how to caress her edges and curves . I have never let anyone use her she is mine and mine alone ! 😂 I carry a SAK trecker in my pockets to loan out . Yeppers I'm that guy who when asked for a knife, responds with " What Kind " ? I paid extra for my knife , i waited for over 40 years to get a shot at my dream knife, I saved up and planned with Bark River for approximately five months before committing to paying 60% up front and the rest before shipping. My knife is one of a kind . I wouldn't trade it for anything else. It hold an edge like nothing else . It's Rockwell hardness is right at 59. so far I have made meat with it ,skinned several deer,two opossum, one turkey 🦃, bunch of squirrel, rabbits, and at last count four hogs . I use it everyday in my kitchen don't even think I have opened the knife drawer except for th Swiss army paring knife i have , in over two years. I must admit that every single step and every single hurdle and every year I have waited was worth adopting this special knife. The Bark River company goes a step ahead and above all the rest .

    Hey there! Great video series, I'm really looking forward to trying dehydrating my own meals. I'm curious about 2 things: 1) Why do you keep it in the freezer? Could you also store it airtight in a dark cool place? ( I don't eat meat so there is a slightly lower contamination risk) 2) I've heard that using oil in the initial cooking process can lead to the oil going rancid quickly, have you had any issues with this? Any idea how long "quickly" is? Thanks alot for the inspiration!

    • @Woodswalker1965
      @Woodswalker1965 День тому

      Thanks for watching! I store in the freezer just for added protection. I’m sure it’s not necessary especially if you plan on using them in the upcoming season . A bit of oil is ok. I try to remove as much animal fats as possible as they have a greater chance of going rancid. So many great vegan and vegetarian options out there. I do a chickpea curry that works well in the dehydrator. Take care👍

    What a great trip. It was nice of River to share her steak with you. I was starting to wonder about how the atv trail was going to be with all that rain. Hope you got out OK. When my shoulders start to bark at me, it is a reminder that I need to take a fast paced walk in the woods every day, over mixed terrain. Doesn’t neccessrily fix anything, but it keeps things limber-ish. I find that being consistent is more important that going a long distance; my loop is just 2.5 miles. Just picked up the Gränsförs Bruk hunters axe. I like the size and balance. finer edge and sleeker profile than a camp axe, and the poll is rounded so that once you get the animal’s hide started, you can strip it away by hitting it like a hammer. I haven’t done it yet, but it is very packable and slicy, so it is on my rucksack/get home bag right now, and lives in the jeep.

    Saved 6 minutes of my life by not watching a man make coffee. Regrets? I've had a few. lol Mora, SAKs and Opinels are in my blood since I've owned many for decades before there was ever a bushcraft craze. I have two scandi from Finland, and over all I reach for scandi or flat grind knives. Multi-tools, after Gerber I stuck with leatherman and own many Waves, a Charge and a Surge. Stick with one of these three, LMs bargain offerings just don't cut it. It looks like you bought the bushcraft "look". Some people think they need to buy all the same gear to be a bushcrafter but those who came before us bought the most modern gear at their outfitter or general store.

I really like the idea of truck camping the way you do to allow you just to get away for an over nighter anywhere without too much set up. I'd planned to get a cap for my truck and do a basic sleeping set up etc - but two repairs over just over 6K to the truck( one caused by rodents chewing wiring) ended that idea for this year!! Another brilliant vidio buddy as usual. You live in such a beautiful country I love canada I've been to western parts banff it was so nice to go out into the backcountry forests and mountain areas and not see a soul , not like here in England too many people about that frown at bushcraft and you can't just go anywhere to camp and do your craft as everywhere is private land . Keep up the fantastic vids take care look forward to seeing more footage 👍
